Red Bull Contested: Driving national hype for the UK’s first major Fortnite tournament

Red Bull brought 100 Fortnite pros to Edinburgh to compete and asked for our help to drive national awareness. From primetime slots on Sky and BBC to major gaming creators unboxing Highland cows on socials, we left no stone unturned.

The UK’s first live major Fortnite tournament for Red Bull UK, Red Bull Contested featured 100 of the world’s best Fortnite players. The tournament transformed the historic McEwan Hall in Edinburgh into a Fortnite den for one action-packed day.

With 400 million players globally and 3 million people playing at any given time, Fortnite has established itself as one of the most iconic titles and Red Bull Contested presented an exciting opportunity to engage the community on a global scale. Through creating an extensive communications strategy, we were able to effectively secure widespread coverage worldwide.

Swipe Right also had the opportunity to create 10 custom Social Opinion Leader gift kits to share with some extra special content creators, which featured bespoke Highland cow piñatas designed for shareable moments. The kits warranted an incredible response from SOL’s, sharing 50 pieces of coverage with a reach of over 318 million across socials, hyping up the global Fortnite community even more!

The launch of Red Bull Contested was Red Bull UK’s biggest gaming launch ever! Across the campaign from launch to the finale, we secured 818 pieces of earned coverage across all mediums, with a global reach of 6.5 billion. Amongst these opportunities were two pieces of broadcast coverage on BBC Click and Sky News Ian King Live. Additional highlights included mainstream press coverage in Reuters, Evening Standard, The Tab and The Sun, as well as print media with two major Scottish titles, The National Scotland and The Herald.
